Sanitation System FAQ

  • Can I use a salt water sanitizer in my spa?

Companies such as HotSpring Spas, allow you to add a system to your spa called the ‘ACE Salt System’.  This allows you to enjoy the spa, and sanitize it using a much easier, and more natural, method.  By installing a small piece of equipment, and adding a little salt to your water, the ACE Salt Sanitation System will help keep your hot tub clean, clear, and ready to use 24/7.

  • Will salt water damage my spa?

Only if used improperly.  Many spa companies don’t offer a salt sanitation system for their hot tubs.  And many times this leads to those companies giving misleading information saying the salt is damaging spas and creating issues.
    .
When in reality, if you use a salt sanitation system that is designed for spas, such as HotSpring Spas Ace Salt System, and follow the directions, the salt system actually will improve your spa experience and lead to you adding less chemicals that can cause corrosion, damage, and even fading such as Chlorine, Bromine, and even some Ozone systems.  Not to mention, the salt system is a much more natural way to sanitize your water.
    .
If used properly, a salt sanitation system will actually cost you less money for chemicals, take less time and hassle to maintain, and will result in you using the spa more because the water will stay cleaner and clearer much longer.
  • Do I have to use chemicals with an ozone system / ozonator / UV System?

Yes.  Contrary to what many hot tub and spa companies will tell you, Ozone and UV systems still require you to use a chlorine, bromine, or another form of sanitizer to keep your water clean.  Unfortunately, Ozone and UV systems cannot be used by themselves to sanitize your water. These products only help with sanitation, not take care of it completely.
    .
As it turns out, one of the only systems that you can install into a spa to take care of your sanitation completely is the ACE Salt Sanitation System that HotSpring Spas offers on thier hot tubs.
  • What does an Ozone generator do?

Introducing Ozone to the spa water after the heater as part of the circulation system is quite normal. The Ozone generator creates very high levels of ozone which in turn oxidises bacteria in the circulation systerm. If you do not have an Ozone system then you will use more sanitizer like Chlorine. Note UV Ozone system need to have a new bulb every year! CD ozone systems last longer but generally need changing every 5 years or so.

  • Do you offer spa chemicals that don’t use chlorine and / or bromine?

We do!  Lifestyles actually offers a line of chemicals, called BaquaSpa, that is completely chlorine and bromine free.  This chemical system is designed to be used by clients who are tired of the chemical smell and reactions caused by other harsh chemicals, or for those who are actually allergic to chlorines and bromines.  The sanitizer used in BaquaSpa is called Biguanide.  This is a sanitizer that is known for being used in many contact solutions such as ReNu, to kill bacteria and not have the harsh side effects.
